Player Select: U.S.Agent VS Superman

This match is a variation on my previous piece Superman VS Captain America. Though they share many similar characteristics, USAgent is not truly Captain America, though in some video games featuring Captain America, USAgent is an alternate character/costume. 

John Walker (first appearance: Captain America #323 in 1986) was a soldier who became an enemy of the original Captain America (Steve Rogers), fighting him as the villain Super Patriot (Captain America #333 in 1987). Walker felt that Captain America did not represent what his country stood for. In time, Rogers discarded the title, going only by ‘the Captain’; Walker became the new Captain America, but he was eventually found to be unworthy.Walker’s death was later faked and he reemerged as the hero USAgent (Captain America #354 in 1989) wearing a costume previously used by Steve Rogers during his time as the Captain.

USAgent is very similar to Captain America, including his military training and the use of his shield as a throwing weapon. Additionally, John Walker underwent a process that granted him a superhuman physique, which Captain America lacks. However, USAgent has not had the many decades of experience that Steve Rogers has acquired in his time as a superhero. Captain America is considered an example to all heroes; USAgent is not seen as his equal. 

 In 1992 DC published ‘The Death of Superman’ storyline in its comics, where the famed superhero is apparently killed by the villain Doomsday. Though several new heroes emerged to fill his place, the original Superman returned in 1993’s Superman: Man of Steel #25. He now wore a black costume and his hair had grown to shoulder length; more importantly his superpowers had yet to be restored completely. Only later would Superman regain the entirety of his abilities, as well as his original costume and standard hairstyle.

This fight may be more evenly matched than that of Superman VS Captain America. Whereas Captain America is said to be of peak human physical capability, USAgent is truly superhuman. He may not equal the full power of Superman, but Superman did not have all his power during the period immediately after his return. Without his abilities Superman had to rely on weaponry at times.
